Late Late Show viewers were left asking about the “awkward” ending to David Walliams interview on Friday’s episode.
The author and comedian was the first guest of the night, kicking the interviews off with a hilarious back and forth, throwing jokes and insults as they reminisced previous meetings, RSVP Live reports.
Radio and television personality Baz Ashmawy was next up on the show, joining the pair to chat about their age, getting to see Oasis on their reunion shows, and why the Late Late Show host doesn’t know any famous faces.
David joked that as the host of the flagship RTÉ show, he would expect Patrick to have met more celebrities after admitting he had never met Elton John or Oasis.
Shooting back at him he said that Baz was an Emmy winner while simply naming David as an author as he went to wrap up for a break. But David wasn’t too impressed as he said he actually had two Emmys, adding an explicit finger gesture that Patrick looked none too happy about.
“Two international Emmys!” David exclaimed as he gave Patrick the middle finger.
“Fairly awkward ending to that segment of the late late,” one viewer penned.
Another wrote: “Ooh Patrick is not happy with Walliams right now. Don’t blame him either.”
“Was there any reason for that segment to be so awkward?” a third shared.
Host Patrick did have a laugh about the awkward moment after the show returned from the break, asking David: “How many Emmys do you have again?”
“Two,” David replied sheepishly.
