Captain Pike’s crew in the predictable ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’
The original crew of the USS Enterprise pledged “to boldly go where no man has gone before”. It is ironic then that TV has spent the decades since not so boldly going where lots of men have been before by constantly reviving that familiar format.
Strange New Worlds (ITV1, Sunday, 10.20pm) is the 10th spin-off of the classic 1960s space saga and while each incarnation has its champions, it’s hard to argue with those who say Captain Kirk and his band of merry men (plus token woman Uhura) were the pick of the crop.
