The Galaxy Watch 7, Samsung’s last generation base smartwatch, finally got a taste of the latest One UI 8 Watch firmware, finally rolling out in all regions. With it brings along a plethora of changes, but it misses out on one key addition many were hoping for.
Battery protection is not present on the Galaxy Watch 7
The latest Galaxy Watch 8 series brought along a new feature, Battery protection. This limits charging to 90% capacity, and lets the battery trickle down to 85% before charging resumes. This helps keep the battery healthy throughout the lifetime of the watch.
The bad news is, only applies to 2025 Galaxy watch models. That’s the Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic and Watch Ultra 2025. All older models won’t get this new feature, including the Watch Ultra 2024, the Galaxy Watch 7, and all other models release before then. Of course, Samsung could change their mind, but that doesn’t seem very likely.

This is a big disappointment to those who want to take extra care for their expensive smartwatch. Just like your Galaxy phone, the batteries inside your watch will wear out over time. Making them last that little bit longer can go a long way to keeping your Galaxy watch strong and reliable for years to come.
