Dunnes Stores has pulled a popular children’s product from sale amid safety fears. An urgent recall has been issued for its 2 Pack Baby Boys and Girls Mittens after it was found they could pose a risk of injury.
Safety officials have warned that long threads from the mittens could wrap around a baby’s finger, potentially causing swelling or loss of movement.
The €2 mittens were sold both in stores and online, with around 4,100 of them purchased across Ireland.
In a statement this afternoon, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: “Dunnes Stores Unlimited Company is carrying out a recall of 2 Pack Baby Boys and Girls Mittens. The risk presented by the product is injuries. While wearing the product, long threads from the product may wrap around the baby’s finger causing swelling and a lack of function.”
The affected items include the following styles and sizes:
Purple mittens (Style number 6242605)
- Size 1 – 3 years: Barcode 5099016766401
- Size 6 – 12 months: Barcode 5099016766418
Stripe mittens (Style number 6242605)
- Size 1 -3 years: Barcode 5099016766425
- Size 6 – 12 months: Barcode 5099016766432
Blue mittens (Style number 6243709)
- Size 1 -3 years: Barcode 5099016766593
- Size 6 -12 months: Barcode 5099016766609
Green mittens (Style number 6243709)
- Size 1 -3 years: Barcode 5099016766616

Customers who bought the affected items are being urged to stop using them immediately and keep them out of reach of children.

The mittens can be returned to any Dunnes Stores branch for a full refund.

Dunnes Stores has apologised for any inconvenience. A spokesperson said: “Due to the presence of long threads, there is a risk of injury to finger leading to a loss of function. We are issuing a product recall notice in respect of this product.
