Gardaí have confirmed that arrests have been made following a serious assault that occurred in Cappoquin on the night of Friday, October 17th. The incident took place amid a series of public order disturbances between 10 p.m. and midnight and left one man in critical condition at University Hospital Waterford.

Speaking on this week’s Waterford Garda Watch, Sergeant Conor Cleary of Dungarvan Garda Station provided an update on the investigation.

“There was a serious assault that took place on Friday night, October 17th. Throughout the evening there were a number of public order incidents, and then finally the serious assault where there’s a male currently in hospital still receiving medical attention,” Sergeant Cleary said.

He confirmed that multiple arrests have been made, and that one man has already appeared before Waterford District Court, where he was remanded in custody.

“Investigations are still ongoing. We’ve taken numerous statements, reviewed a lot of CCTV, and carried out extensive house-to-house inquiries,” he added.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have been in Cappoquin between 10 p.m. and midnight on the night of October 17th. In particular, they are seeking dash cam footage from motorists or CCTV and doorbell recordings from residents in the area that might assist the investigation.

“You might think it’s not much information, but it could be very important to us,” Sergeant Cleary said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 48600, or alternatively, any Garda station.
