For many, the journey to a €79,655-a-year non-executive director role on a board starts with years of unpaid service on a voluntary or not-for-profit board.
At roughly 100 hours annually over three years, that’s estimated to be more than €20,000 in lost income for a senior professional, making it Ireland’s most expensive apprenticeship, accessible only to those with financial security and time to spare.
