Dunnes Stores is set to close three of its grocery shops by the end of this month.

It is understood the first of the three stores, in Cornelscourt Village in south Dublin, will close tomorrow.

This is a small grocery outlet located a few hundred metres from the larger Dunnes Stores supermarket in Cornelscourt Shopping Centre.

Then next Friday, 31 October, two more stores are set to shut.

This includes one of the two Dunnes Stores located in the Ilac Centre (48-50 Henry St) in Dublin city centre, and the outlet on West Street in Drogheda, Co Louth.

News of the closure of the Drogheda store was first reported last week, with up to 30 staff impacted.

It is understood some workers in the shops that are closing have already been offered redeployment to other Dunnes outlets.

The closures come despite industry figures earlier this week suggesting take-home grocery sales in Ireland rose by more than 6% in the month to October, with shoppers spending an additional €67.6m on groceries compared to the same month last year.

The stats, from Worldpanel by Numerator, also indicate Dunnes has the largest market share of any grocery retailer at 24.4%.
