The IKEA Phone Sleep Collection, a miniature bed for your smartphone, has been unveiled in an advertising campaign in the United Arab Emirates. Designed to help their customers get better sleep, users will be rewarded if they leave their phone in the bed for a fixed period of time every night for one week.
IKEA is giving away beds for smartphones in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The product is part of a campaign to help customers improve their quality of sleep by spending less time on their smartphones.
The miniature IKEA bed has been advertised on the brand’s UAE YouTube channel as The Phone Sleep Collection. Customers can get their hands on the product when they spend over Dhs 750 (~$204) at one of the brand’s stores in this market. Plus, their basket must have at least one item from the IKEA Complete Sleep Collection, which appears to include many of the brand’s sheets, pillows and duvets.
On top of this, the IKEA bed has an integrated NFC chip, logging how long the smartphone remains ‘tucked in’. If customers are able to leave their phone in the bed for seven hours each night for seven days, they will earn a Dhs 100 (~$27) IKEA voucher. It is worth noting that there does not seem to be any charging functionality built into the product.
The video of the Phone Sleep Collection smartphone bed shows that it comes in several parts and requires self-assembly, as is the case with the brand’s standard furniture. The set seems to include a plastic frame and mattress, though the tiny pillow and duvet shown in the advert do not appear to be included. Whether IKEA could extend this campaign to other regions in the future is unclear.
