There are many production elements to Lorde’s “Ultrasound” tour. There’s a treadmill, on which she performs “Supercut” while running — a tremendously impressive feat that has quickly become one of the most viral, and anticipated, moments from her show. There’s an enormous fan that blows her signature brunette curls in the wind during the choruses of “Current Affairs” and “Shapeshifter.”

But one object, an aurora-colored water bottle, has unexpectedly stirred the most interest from fans. The 26 year-old pop star teased “Virgin” ahead of its release by cryptically changing her profile pictures to the titanium-made water bottle from Snow Peak, and now the reusable vessel also makes an appearance on stage. While singing “Solar Power,” she pours water on herself, singing: “I throw my cellular device in the water / Can you reach me? No, you can’t.”

One Reddit thread titled “The $100+ water bottle HAS PURPOSE” has 60+ comments analyzing the bottle’s significance.

But for Lorde, the water bottle isn’t anything more than a beautiful object.

“It sort of became this personal talisman to me,” Lorde told Variety in an interview this week. “I love the idea of finding magic in our everyday lives, and I have what I call “sticker brain” — the sort of shimmery, sparkly stickers that I would use as a child, that all still activates me. So I saw this bottle and was like, “Mm, fabulous.”

While many may scoff at the bottle’s extremely high price tag of $185 (“The cap doesn’t work great, she’s not perfect and she was very expensive,” Lorde says), she has had “her” for three years now.

“I’m like, some of you have definitely bought a new Stanley Cup in that time,” she jokes.
