Staff at a logistics company depot in County Clare had to be evacuated on Thursday morning following a hazardous materials incident.
Clare County Fire and Rescue Service assisted by the gardaí responded to the incident which occurred this morning, Thursday August 21, at about 6am at a logistics company depot located in the Smithstown Industrial Estate, in Shannon.
The incident involved a spillage of a small quantity of nitric acid. Fire service units from Shannon and Ennis stations were mobilised and attended the scene promptly.
Using specialist equipment and wearing appropriate protective gear, fire crews successfully contained and managed the spillage.
The building was evacuated as a precaution. However, the incident was confined to a small area within the premises, and there was no risk to the wider public.
