It’s pretty common knowledge that Loki, the God of Mischief, is Thor’s adopted younger brother. While his biological father was revealed to be Laufey, the King of the Frost Giants, not much is known about his mother.
Per The Direct, concert art of Loki’s birth mother were officially revealed in the Marvel Studios book, Loki: Season Two – The Art Of The Series. The book, which serves as a tie-in to the hit Disney+ series, Loki, also includes an interview with the show’s development supervisor, Jackson Sze, who explains the science behind creating concept art for Loki’s mother.

“We knew from the get-go that Loki was going to become very powerful at the end. Whether that was as the God of Stories or somehow connected to the Multiverse,” Sze said. “In my images, I was borrowing the visual language that the What If…? series has created for the Multiverse and kind of put Loki in charge of that.”
“And then we were thinking, ‘What would be some of the biggest beings in Marvel Comics that Loki could interact with?'” Sze continued. “They don’t come much bigger than the Living Tribunal in Adam’s images. We were going as cosmic as we dared to, but also there was some talk about maybe revisiting Loki’s past.”
According to Sze, that’s when the conceot art for Lokis mother was developed. “[Visual Development Concept Illustrator] Mushk Rizvi explored some concepts of Loki’s Frost Giant origins with his mother,” he explained. “As visual designers working at Marvel Studios, we get the opportunity to think about the past and future of a character and how to make them really compelling to the audience.”

“At the beginning of a project, we are very thankful and lucky to have the time and the creative space to explore the wildest ideas that our artists can come up with,” Sze added. While the story of Loki’s biological parents remains largely unexplored, his MCU arc eventually came full circle, from his first appearance as the jealous prince of Asgard in Thor to his eventual transformation to selfless guardian.
Loki’s Story Came Full Circle
The Disney+ series follows the God of Mischief (from an alternate timeline) after he uses the Tesseract to escape in Avengers: Endgame and is subsequently captured by the Time Variance Authority. During Season 1, Loki, was forced to confront the truth about himself and the futility of his pursuit of a glorious purpose. By the time Loki Season 2 ended, the character had moved away from his trickster roots.
Instead, he became the God of Stories, after selflessly taking control of the timelines to preserve all realities, effectively assuming the role once held by He Who Remains. Sitting upon the throne at the end of time, Loki now sustains the entire multiverse, It’s a poetic conclusion for a character who began as a villain seeking recognition and ended as a God ensuring the survival of everything.
Loki Season 1 and Season2 are streaming on Disney+. Loki: Season Two – The Art Of The Series can be found wherever books are sold.
