Calls to tackle ‘Caller ID spoofing’

Europol is calling for a coordinated European response to tackle ‘Caller ID spoofing’.

That’s when criminals falsify information displayed on phones, making numbers appear legitimate to deceive victims.

European law-enforcement says the practice is driving substantial fraud, worth an estimated 850 million euro worldwide each year.
