Hitmaker Selena Gomez showed up to a Rare Beauty event looking gorgeous while shutting down her haters following support from Grimes.
The 33-year-old singer and actress was all smiles while walking the red carpet for her annual charity gala, the 2025 Rare Impact Fund Benefit, held on October 29 in Los Angeles.
Gomez wore a purple mini-dress with a matching shawl as she greeted guests and posed for photos, marking one of her most high-profile appearances of the year.
The evening brought together supporters of the Rare Impact Fund, which aims to ensure young people have access to mental health care, stigma-free community support, and culturally responsive resources that take into account their unique experiences and backgrounds.
Jimmy Kimmel served as host for the night, while indie band The Marías performed. Ahead of the event, Gomez expressed her gratitude in a statement, “This night is a celebration of how far we’ve come and a powerful reminder of how much more we can do together. I’m incredibly grateful to Jimmy and The Marías for joining me in shining a light on youth mental health. Their support means the world — not just to me, but to millions of young people this work touches around the globe.”
“Try to imagine the mental fortitude she presumably has,” she wrote, asking how people could fail to “utterly morally castigate someone” who keeps a viral post up for “clout at the expense of everybodies mental health. “How do u think little girls feel reading stuff like this about another woman?” she continued.
Gomez, who has lupus, has long been open about her health and how it affects her body. “I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me, that’s when I really started noticing more of the body image stuff,” she said in a 2019 interview with friend Raquelle Stevens on Giving Back Generation.
Grimes continued her defense, adding, “It shud not be ok to do high school level bullying. Accounts shud be suspended for body shaming en masse.” She also emphasized, “This is disturbing – in part because it’s not even true if u actually watch this video.”
In the Dark appears on Netflix’s Nobody Wants This Season 2: The Soundtrack, marking Gomez’s first music release since her March collaboration I Said I Loved You First with husband Benny Blanco.
Grimes concluded her remarks in saying, “I’m not even in the business of knowing what celebrities do,” she wrote, adding that the Internet has become “unhealthy as f———.”
She called the normalization of body-shaming “culture death – not just for the Selena or the writer but everyone who sees this and engages with this level of dehumanization.”
