Beatrice attended the event just days after her father, Prince Andrew, announced that he was relinquishing his royal titles, including his prestigious Duke of York status
In the wake of Prince Andrew‘s recent announcement that he would no longer use his royal titles, his daughter Princess Beatrice‘s name tag contained a mistake.
On Oct. 28, a photo surfaced of King Charles’ niece at an event widely identified as the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where she smiled alongside another attendee. Princess Beatrice, 37, wore a name tag on a lanyard with her business casual outfit, and a close look showed that her royal title on the badge wasn’t technically correct.
In addition to “Liontree,” the New York asset management firm where she holds an advisory role, the tag identified her as “H.R.H. Princess Beatrice of York.” While “H.R.H.” reflects Beatrice’s status as Her Royal Highness, the “of York” language was outdated.
Prior to her 2020 marriage, Beatrice was known as Princess Beatrice of York to reflect her father Andrew’s Duke of York title.

It’s tradition within the royal family for royal children to adopt their parents’ titles in this way, and a trend that continues today. For example, Prince William‘s children are technically titled Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales given his position as Prince of Wales.
After Beatrice married the property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020, her name became Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, which is reflected in the British royal family’s line of succession on their official website.
There, Beatrice is listed as “Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi,” while her sister, Princess Eugenie, is “Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank” to reflect her own married name.

The mistake on Princess Beatrice’s name tag was spotted days after her father, Prince Andrew, announced the shock news that he is relinquishing use of his royal titles and honors.
Andrew made the announcement amid new scrutiny around his relationship with the late, disgraced Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in prison while awaiting trial in 2019, and before the publication of a posthumous memoir by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged in the book that Epstein trafficked her to the prince.
Now, Prince Andrew will no longer use his Duke of York title — the prestigious peerage given by his mother, Queen Elizabeth, when he married Sarah Ferguson in 1986 — or other titles.
However, the huge move won’t affect the royal status of his children.

PEOPLE understands that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s titles and positions are wholly unaffected as Andrew surrendered his titles, which won’t impede their attendance at future family events.
Prince Andrew’s ex-wife Ferguson, however, has also dropped use of her duchess title amid the scandal, and King Charles is reportedly booting the former couple (who continue to live together) from their longtime Royal Lodge home.
