Frozen is turning 12 years old this month!

The hit animated movie from Disney debuted in theaters November 2013 and quickly became a fan-favorite, with the main song “Let It Go” being played literally everywhere.

Frozen went on to gross over $1 billion at the box office, become the highest grossing animated film of all time, before being dethroned years later. It currently ranks top five!

Following it’s success, Disney made a sequel to the movie, as well as various shorts and even a third and fourth movie being in the works.

Ahead of it’s anniversary, we’re looking back at some things you may not have known about the movie, and how the final version we know and love differed from the original that Disney set out to create. It featured different actresses reading for Elsa and Anna (the characters played by Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell) and a very different plot.

We also learned that Frozen was not the first Disney movie either Idina or Kristen auditioned for. Interestingly, they were both in the running for the same part in another hit from the House of Mouse.

The cast has also reflected on John Travolta‘s now iconic flub at the Oscars when he introduced Idina as Adele Dazeem.
