Down below, Pattinson’s beautifully tailored trousers fell cleanly atop an unexpected pair of leather fisherman sandals—an especially bold move in New York City in November. That choice, too, felt a little like a compromise made between a parent and child (or stylist and celebrity): You can wear your light-up sneakers if you let me finish combing your hair. (As per usual, Pattinson’s ’do was perfectly messy and windswept.)

Pattinson’s style is, in a word, eclectic. Sometimes, he’ll partake in the whole method dressing thing—only instead of doing it to promote an upcoming movie, he’ll wear something vaguely thematic two years after the project’s been out. He’ll wear a glittery skirt for a Dior event, but prefers cargo shorts on his own time. Usually, he dresses like your sister’s boyfriend, or a young geometry teacher you might’ve crushed on in high school, and there’s always a slight brattiness about it.

As he left the premiere Saturday night, he had his wife Suki Waterhouse’s palm in one hand, and a white silk scarf—originally worn buttoned to the model’s pants on the runway—carelessly crumpled in the other. No offense to Jonathan Anderson’s very talented styling team, but we prefer it Pattinson’s way.
