A man who was killed in a suspected hit-and-run collision in County Derry at the weekend has been named.

69-year-old Patrick Flanagan was killed in the incident which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Dungiven.

The Derry man was found severely injured in the Foreglen Road area at 1:35am.

He was rushed to hospital by members of the ambulance service, but sadly he later passed away from his injuries.

Police believe at this time that Patrick was struck by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene of the accident.

They are appealing to anyone that was in the Foreglen Road area of Dungiven between 1am and 2am on Sunday night to come forward.

Police can confirm that the man who died after being seriously injured in Dungiven, in the early hours of Sunday, November 2, was 69 year old Patrick Flanagan from the Derry area.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this incident and we believe at this time that Patrick was struck by a vehicle in a hit and run road traffic collision,” Police said in a statement.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area between 1am and 2am on Sunday morning and witnessed the collision, or captured dash-cam or other footage from the area, which could assist with our investigation.”
