Timothée Chalamet’s publicist wasn’t exactly tickled pink by this particular fashion choice.

The year was 2017, and a young Chalamet was starring in Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me by Your Name.” While in Germany, before the movie’s debut at the Berlin Film Festival, the actor’s eye caught a glimpse of designer Haider Ackermann’s “big raincoat,” and in that moment, he knew this was the garment for him to wear to the premiere.

But his publicist didn’t take a liking to the idea.

“It was like, ‘You’re not even going to get off the ground!’” Chalamet recalled being told by his publicist in a Thursday interview for Vogue. “‘You’re going to ruin what you’re doing before you get going.’”

The “Dune” actor ended up wearing the pink jacket, but for him, it wasn’t just a color — it was a power move, especially given his disregard for the “degree of obedience” that often comes with being an actor.

“I think some people relish it, not even just actors,” he said. “I’m talking publicists, the unit people. People love to be told what to do.”

The interview also noted that Chalamet now has a completely different publicist.

Since then, the “A Complete Unknown” star hasn’t shied away from bold fashion choices. At the 2025 Academy Awards, he brought a touch of Willy Wonka whimsy to the red carpet. From head-to-toe in striking yellow — a Gucci suit, matching shirt and Cartier jewels — he practically looked like the embodiment of sunshine.

Three years earlier, at the same awards ceremony, he turned heads wearing a one-of-a-kind, shirtless Louis Vuitton ensemble: sleek black tuxedo trousers, paired with a cropped jacket of sparkling sequined lace.
