Bree Allen arrived at Ballymaloe for a three-month stopover. Just over 20 years later, she’s part of the fabric of this magical place with three children, a busy job involving the Grainstore and a stunning home

As well as lots of stunning Irish-crafted furnishings, Bree Allen’s home in East Cork is noteworthy for the amount of surfaces on which to eat, in and around the welcoming kitchen/dining/living room. There’s also different types of cooking appliances – gas, electric and induction hobs, a Gaggenau oven and an AGA, and that’s to be expected. The Allens of Ballymaloe are noted for their food and hospitality and Bree, who became an Allen when she married Cullen Allen of Cully & Sully soups, is no exception.

The day these photos were taken, she was making a giant pot of soup for her son’s friends and like her husband, she makes a mean soup.
