EXCLUSIVE: Taika Waititi has closed a new first-look deal with 20th Television, FX Productions and Hulu — all divisions of Disney where he has a long history, both on the TV and the feature side.

Under the pact, he will develop and direct original series for 20th Television and FX Productions targeting all linear networks and streamers with priority given to Disney Entertainment Television platforms, most notably FX and Hulu.

Waititi is currently in development with Barry writer-producer Jason Kim on Last Look, a half-hour comedy for Hulu from 20th Television. Written and executive produced by Waititi and Kim, Last Look is a modern upstairs/downstairs comedy set in a luxury fashion house. It depicts the lives of the underdogs who work tirelessly to make the fashions come to life – and the fabulous monsters who design them.

Additionally, Waititi has in contention the FX pilot Very Young Frankenstein from 20th Television, which he directed and executive produced. Initial reaction to the pilot, based on Mel Brooks‘ classic 1974 film Young Frankenstein, has been positive. It is now in post-production.

Waititi, who has renewed his previous first-look deal, was behind FX’s What We Do In the Shadows and Reservation Dogs — both Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy nominees (What We Do In the Shadows four times), and Hulu’s Interior Chinatown.

He also directed an episode of Disney+’s The Mandalorian. On the film side, his Disney credits include Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder and Thor: Ragnarok and Searchlight’s Jojo Rabbit, which earned him an Oscar for writing, and Next Goal Wins. Waititi is also writing and will direct a Star Wars film for Lucasfilm. He recently directed A Disney Holiday Short: Best Christmas Ever for Disney, which has garnered 34M views on YouTube alone since its Nov. 10 release. You can watch it below.

Last year, Waititi launched Waititi Productions, led by Ishi Metkar, VP of Development and Production, and Michelle Chan, Director of Development and Production. The company is dedicated to producing film and television projects that spotlight voices and stories often overlooked by Hollywood — especially those from working-class backgrounds and rural or underrepresented parts of the world.

Waititi, who has the Sony feature Klara And the Sun set for 2026 release, is repped by CAA, Manage-ment, and Yorn Levine Barnes.
