On August 15th, Gerard Moorehouse (45) of Piercetown, Newbridge, also locked himself in a toilet as the plane, carrying 200 passengers, prepared to land.
Delays in delivering a toasted sandwich to a passenger from Newbridge on board a Ryanair flight resulted in homophobic slurs and threats being directed at cabin crew.
On August 15th, Gerard Moorehouse (45) of Piercetown, Newbridge, also locked himself in a toilet as the plane, carrying 200 passengers, prepared to land.
In court he claimed, according to the Irish Independent, that he needed his sandwich because he was diabetic.
He also said he was in the toilet due to bowel problems.
He further stated that he was discriminated against because he is a member of the Traveller community.
A cabin attendant said Moorehouse never informed him that he was diabetic and that he could have used the toilet at any other time during the flight.
It was also claimed that Moorehouse asked a Cabin attendant if they were gay, and called them f****ts multiple times.
Moorehouse accepted that he called the flight attendant names but denied making threats.
He pleaded not guilty.
However, the court found him guilty of threatening and abusive behaviour on an aircraft.
He received a three-month suspended sentence and was fined €1,500.
