It’s been more than five years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down as working members of the British Royal Family, but it would appear that formal protocol is still very much in place on certain occasions.
In a brand new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, which saw her pose make-up free on the cover, the Duchess of Sussex spoke candidly about her life in Montecito, reflecting on everything from parenthood and marriage to making “mistakes” in the public eye.
This comes at a busy time for the mum of two, who has a Christmas special on the way for her Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan. A new trailer for the show, which will drop on December 3, sees royal turned lifestyle guru Meghan “embracing traditions and making new ones”, while “finding time to connect with the people we love”.
However, writer Kaitlyn Greenidge picked up on a gesture straight out of palace traditions during her second meeting with Meghan at a chic New York brownstone, the home of an unnamed friend.

Painting the scene, Kaitlyn described how Meghan, 43, was formally announced as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex ahead of their meeting – even though they were the only two people in the building.
In her piece for Harper’s Bazaar, Kaitlyn wrote: “When I enter, the house manager announces, ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’, even though we appear to be the only other two people in the house.”
After moving toward the second floor of the house, using a glass elevator situated in the living room, Meghan touched on a range of topics, including her surprise appearance at the Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week, and her hopes of inspiring her children, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, through her various business and creative projects.

Telling of how her home office is situated right near the kitchen of her mansion, Meghan shared how daughter Lilibet “comes and sits on my lap when I’m in the middle of the meeting, whether it’s about P and L for my brand or it’s about something creative.”
When asked about what she hopes her kids will take away from her work, Meghan shared: “I hope they see the value of being brave. They saw it when the jam was just a pot on the stove, bubbling. When you’re young,” she adds, ”I think you are a little bit more fearless. As we get older, we lose some of that.”
Earlier this year, Meghan, who used to help her Tennessee grandmother make preserves as a young girl. unveiled her range of £6.50 jams as part of her sell-out As Ever range. According to Meghan’s official website, her “signature” raspberry jam is “inspired by the recipe Meghan crafted in her home kitchen”.
