Wake up! Wake up! Hilary Duff is returning to music with her first album in ten years, Luck … or Something. “I am often asked how I still have my head on straight after growing up in this industry,” she said in a statement on November 21. “The album title is my way of answering that question. It’s luck, but there’s also a lot of weight in the ‘… or something. Many of the things I’ve been through along the way are held there, and I feel like ultimately that’s what’s shaped me.” Out on February 20, the album will be her first since 2015’s Breath In. Breathe Out. (Clearly, she’s got a thing for punctuation in titles.) On the album cover, she’s splayed across a blue-gray carpet in a brown sweater and sheer tights. This is the Lizzie Maguire that Disney didn’t want you to see.
Duff already released the album’s first single, “Mature,” on November 6. The song looks back at her early career, describing herself in the third person. “She looks / Like she could be your daughter,” she says to herself / “Like me before I got smarter / When I was flattered to hear you say / ‘You’re so mature for your age, babe.’” Duff is also going on the Small Rooms, Big Nerves mini tour in January, where she’ll stop in London, Toronto, Brooklyn, and Ontario. But if you’re just learning about it now — too late! All tour dates are sold out. There’s something going on everywhere she goes.
