When Stuart McCaul shook hands on the deal to buy Irish accounting software firm Big Red Book in April it was the first public step for an ambitious plan of acquisition and consolidation that he has been hatching for some time.

That plan, he says, will see his firm Ishikawa Technologies – named after a Japanese business guru – snap up software firms around Europe.
