Adare Manor will host the 2027 Ryder Cup
Gardaí who will oversee security at the 2027 Ryder Cup being held in Adare Manor, Co Limerick, will visit New York next month and attend this year’s Ryder Cup competition — to study the security measures being put in place at the international golf tournament.
A group of senior officers are to travel to the Bethpage Black golf course on Long Island — the venue for this year’s US v Europe tournament, which is staged every two years.
The gardaí have been given “access all areas” accreditation for the US event, and contacts with local law enforcement agencies and Federal security bodies have been set up.
On their return to Ireland, they will meet with various specialist groups within An Garda Síochána to outline the security measures used in the US.
Aviation bosses at Shannon Airport — the arrival hub — will deal with matters such as flight free zones, while it is understood that the Irish Naval Services will be given the responsibility of ensuring security on the Shannon Estuary, as Adare Manor is accessible via the River Maigue.
The Irish Army will have the brief of maintaining an outer armed covert cordon around Adare, Shannon and other areas where significant international VIPs will transit.
As the Ryder Cup captures a global TV audience of hundreds of millions, no expense is being spared to ensure the successful running of the event.
“This is so big for Ireland, it’s all systems go,” said one tourism source.
The Ryder Cup event in Adare will include three “lead-in” days from September 13 to 16, followed by three days of competition between Europe and the United States, from September 17 to 19.
