Rock royalty, too, showed their support for the Prince of Wales. Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood met with William ahead of the ceremony, as did actor John Cleese. Speaking with the comedian, the Prince shared some insight into his family life, revealing that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis had recently started watching Cleese’s iconic comedy series, Fawlty Towers.

This royal night out comes in the same week that Zara Tindall made a rare joint engagement with her mother, the Princess Royal, at the World Horse Welfare Annual Conference at the Royal Geographical Society in London. It is rare that the 44-year-old Olympian attends such an event with her mother, and even less frequent that she offers as impassioned a statement as she did for last week’s Conference, which encouraged fellow equestrians to see ‘through the horse’s eyes’. Accordingly, Zara Tindall issued a moving message about the importance of empathy for our equine companions.

‘I think seeing through their eyes is all about partnership, it’s feeling them every day and how different they come out, being receptive to that and working with that,’ the royal said.

As patron of the World Horse Welfare charity, Zara also spoke out about how the nation’s politics have been to the detriment of equine welfare – a rare royal comment on the goings on in parliament. ‘If we’re talking about legislation and how we have gone back in time, sort of post-Brexit, our travel time for horses and their welfare has definitely gone downhill,’ she said.
