A family are “lucky to be alive” after a house in Ballyfermot was targeted in a suspected arson attack.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene in the early hours of this morning. All the occupants of the house were evacuated and brought to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries
The local fire service extinguished the fire. A technical examination of the scene has been completed and investigations are ongoing.
Dublin Fire Brigade also confirmed that the scene was handed over to Gardai once the flames had been extinguished. The blaze was attended by firefighters from Dolphins Barn and Tallaght stations.
“Dublin Fire Brigade received reports of a fire off the Kylemore Road in Dublin 10 at 01.00 hrs this morning. Firefighters from Dolphins Barn and Tallaght stations responded and breathing apparatus teams extinguished the fire. Four people were removed to hospital for treatment. After hotspots were cooled down the scene was handed over to Gardai.”
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Daithí Doolan has today condemned what he called an “arson attack” on the house in Ballyfermot. He said that the family have been left facing homelessness after the blaze.
“The attack arson last night on a family home in Labre Park was cowardly, wrong and totally unacceptable. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms. The attack has left a family homeless and lucky to be alive,” Cllr. Daithí Doolan said.
“I was to extend my heartfelt sympathy to this local family. I hope they get the support they deserve to help them through this very difficult time.
He strongly called for justice in this alleged incident. He asked that anyone who has any information to get in touch with Gardaí.
“Those involved must be caught and must face justice. I would appeal to anyone who has information to please give it to the Gardaí so they can find those who carried out this terrible attack. These people must be taken off the streets,” he said.
