People are praising Rama Duwaji, wife of Mayor-elect of New York City Zohran Mamdani, for ‘decentring men’. The 28-year-old Syrian-American is the city’s youngest first lady. But her disinterest in that role is gaining the most attention and praise.
An animator and illustrator, she is firmly holding on to her identity outside of her husband’s political career. Many have noted that Duwaji’s Instagram account is awash with selfies, photographs with friends and artwork, giving little indication she’s married to a mayor or, indeed, married at all.
