In our review, the RedMagic 11 Pro stands out thanks not only to its high performance, but also to numerous other features such as a large battery and fast charging. However, a few compromises have to be made in return.

The RedMagic 11 Pro is a high-end smartphone designed exclusively for gaming, replacing its predecessor with a new SoC, revamped design and significantly larger battery. It starts at £629/€699 and can cost up to £879/€999 depending on the storage configuration, with the top model offering up to 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. In everyday use, it is clearly positioned as a performance machine for gamers who are willing to compromise on comfort, sustainability and future-proofing.

Externally, the device features a striking but cleanly crafted aluminum frame with tight gaps, Gorilla Glass protection and IPX8 certification. A particularly noteworthy feature is the complete absence of a camera bump and a display cutout, as the rear cameras sit flush under the glass, while the front camera is hidden beneath the display, resulting in a completely seamless front. The smartphone is available in three color variants (matte and partially transparent), with the transparent versions emphasizing the gaming-typical inner workings and RGB elements. Added to this are practical details such as USB 3.2, a low-noise 3.5 mm jack port and versatile configurable LED lighting.

The 6.85-inch AMOLED panel delivers very high brightness values, reaching and even exceeding the manufacturer’s specifications and ensuring excellent readability outdoors. At the same time, thanks to high-frequency PWM dimming, a comparatively eye-friendly display is ensured, although the typical OLED flickering remains. Not all HDR standards are supported, which slightly limits the otherwise strong display. Nonetheless, together with the touch-sensitive shoulder buttons, which are very precise and offer a wide range of customizable functions, the smartphone is clearly engineered for gaming.

As a child I was fascinated by my Commodore 16, and this sparked my enthusiasm for computers. Using my first modem, I surfed the BTX videotext system and later the World Wide Web. I have always been captivated by the latest technologies, and this is especially true for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. I’ve been part of the Notebookcheck team since 2013 and have also on occasion written for Notebookinfo.de, and I’m looking forward to testing new innovations for our readers. I like to spend my spare time indulging in photography and barbecues and being with my family.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
