Dominic McLaughlin, star of HBO‘s upcoming Harry Potter series, has recalled the moment he received a letter from Daniel Radcliffe.
McLaughlin, who will play the titular wizard in the new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, said he was handed the letter when he was on a train home to Glasgow.
“It was insane,” he beamed, during an interview with the BBC show Saturday Mash-Up! Live.
“My Dad tapped me on the train and just gave me this letter. I read it and then I got to the bottom, and it said, ‘Dan R.’ I was going mad, but I had to [keep cool]. I was on the train.”
Asked how filming was progressing, McLaughlin replied: “It’s going amazing, it’s going really well. I’ve made good friends with everyone, it’s great to be there.”
Radcliffe revealed last month that he had written some words for McLaughlin. “I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them,” Radcliffe said.
“They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh it’s crazy I was doing that at that age.’ But it’s also incredibly sweet, and I hope they’re having a great time.”
McLaughlin was announced as Potter in May and has been filming on the HBO series over the summer. A whopping 32,000 kids auditioned for Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton bagged the other two roles.
McLaughlin appeared on Saturday Mash-Up! Live to promote new CBBC series Gifted, which follows a group of Scottish teens who discover they each have extraordinary powers.
