Up to 100 homes in Kerry are to get free hot water after surplus renewable energy was generated from windfarms in Kilgarvan.

Renewable energy company Ørsted is partnering with the charity EnergyCloud for this initiative.

Ørsted has three operational wind farms in the Kilgarvan area – in Kilgarvan, Sillahertane, and Inchincoosh.

Through Ørsted’s community benefit fund, EnergyCloud will provide free hot water to the homes that are located nearest the wind farms; homes under Kerry County Council’s stock are eligible for the scheme.

Ørsted will provide approximately €500 per home to the initiative.
