Three asylum seekers were subjected to an “awful attack” in Co Dublin over the weekend.

Gardai are probing the incident which is said to have happened on Aghfarrell Road in Brittas at around 2.30pm on Sunday, November 30. The three men were taken to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims – men aged in their teens, 20s and 30s – were reportedly badly beaten and left bloodied in the terrifying incident. Gardai have confirmed that they are investigating an assault and criminal damage incident after a car window was also smashed during the incident, Dublin Live reports.

One of the victims told officers they were “followed” by two men on motorbikes after stopping off to get petrol as they drove their vehicle from their international protection accommodation to the village of Brittas.

After stopping their car in the village, they say they were attacked: “They started punching us, I was punched in the stomach,” the teenager told The Journal. “My friend was punched in the head by them.”

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy, who represents the area, described the incident as “another awful attack.”

“Another awful attack, this time on Afghan men in our community. We need to mobilise to defend the safety of our community and against those who want to spread violence and hate,” he wrote on X. “The government needs to stop its scapegoating and hostile environment.”

Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
