German energy company ILOS Energy is to develop a €143million solar farm in North Cork. The renewable energy firm has announced it has secured the multi-million euro finance deal with Danske Bank for the major investment into Co Cork.

The renewables experts are constructing the new 500-acre solar farm in Ballyhea, North Cork. The project started in April and has been progressing ahead of schedule with its partner, Soleire Renewables. The 217MW solar farm will produce enough energy to provide 39,000 homes with electricity and will be constructed over the coming year.

Meanwhile, its huge solar farm project in Roscrea, Co Tipperary is nearly ready for action after a €130million investment. EirGrid has begun the energisation process at the ‘Erkina’ farm and will start exporting electricity to the national grid in the New Year.

Mark Varian, managing director for ILOS Energy in Ireland said: “Alongside our 220MW solar park in Tipperary, which is nearly complete and will begin exporting to the national grid in December, ILOS Energy and our development partners in Soleire Renewables are proud to be bringing projects of significant scale to market that will make a tangible difference to Ireland’s 2030 climate targets,”

“Over the coming years, we’ll continue to progress further utility scale projects in other strategic locations of the country, which will play a vital role in decarbonising Ireland’s energy system while also enhancing our security of supply.”
