Thurles Shopping Centre.
For one unlucky Christmas shopper, this time of year will mark an unhappy first anniversary, after they left a significant sum of cash at an ATM in Thurles.
Around this time last year, someone went to the cash machine in Thurles Shopping Centre, wishing to withdraw some money, according to An Garda Siochána Tipperary, who publicised the incident in a public appeal on Wednesday, December 3.
“They went through the usual motions except they never took the money from the dispensing tray. A garda on the beat spotted the cash and seized it as lost property. The owner is still entitled to claim it back. This could be a better Christmas for them than last year,” said a spokesperson.
Anyone interested in claiming the money can contact Sgt Ray Moloney at Thurles Garda Station with any queries. One member of the public suggested that the gardai could ask the bank, who made a transaction of that amount around the time the garda found it.
All avenues to identify the owner were explored prior to publicising it, responded gardaí.
“For what it’s worth, the company refused to disclose or to contact the owner as they, the administrators of the machine, were based outside the jurisdiction,” added a spokesperson.
