- Magnus and Mattias Ferrell reenact their dad’s iconic Elf singing moment, with Magnus taking on the shower-singing role and Mattias performing Will’s part from the toilet
- The brothers mirror the movie’s original setup but cut the clip short with a lighthearted reveal of Mattias grinning as Magnus turns the corner
- Their TikTok arrives as Elf continues its reign as a holiday staple more than 20 years after its release
Will Ferrell’s sons are getting into the holiday spirit with a playful throwback that has fans recalling Elf.
Magnus and Mattias Ferrell recreated their dad’s iconic duet with Zooey Deschanel, turning a familiar movie moment into a TikTok that’s quickly winning the Internet’s attention.
In the clip, Magnus stands in for Deschanel’s shower-singing scene, belting out the tune as he films himself in the bathroom. Meanwhile, Mattias hilariously takes on his dad’s role, sitting on the toilet and singing Will’s part as if he’s casually — and confidently — right at home.
The TikTok nods to the original 2003 film in a way only Ferrell’s kids could pull off. While the movie shows Will’s Buddy the Elf sprinting into the lockers in surprise, the brothers cut their version just as Magnus turns the corner to discover who’s singing, catching Mattias grinning back at him.
Their moment lands at a time when Elf remains one of the most beloved holiday films, more than two decades after its debut.
Will has embraced the movie’s legacy in his own way too, even poking fun at Elf last year with a playful public moment that reminded fans he’ll always have Buddy in his back pocket.
During that appearance, the actor showed up to an NHL game dressed head-to-toe in Buddy’s bright green costume, swapping the character’s signature cheer for a hilariously grumpy expression.
He even pretended to smoke a cigarette in the stands, turning the famously joyful elf into a surprisingly surly rink-side spectator.

The moment quickly became a fan favorite, especially as it arrived during the film’s 20th anniversary year. It was a reminder that even though he once turned down a sequel, Will still knows exactly how to keep Elf alive for the people who love it most.
For many families, the film has become a seasonal tradition — and now the Ferrell household is adding its own twist to that legacy.
Magnus and Mattias’ recreation doesn’t just celebrate their dad’s most famous role, it shows they’re more than willing to join in on the fun.
