Two South American wines from Lidl this week. If you are starting to think about Christmas both of these wines are worth considering. Medium- to full-bodied Chardonnay goes really well with turkey, as it has plenty of acidity and a creamy texture to match the richness of the turkey and accompaniments. Vegetarians might like to try it alongside cauliflower cheese or vegetable gratins. Chardonnay also makes a great partner for prawns and smoked salmon so you could serve it throughout the meal.

The Malbec has some tannins and may grate a little alongside the turkey. However, it would go perfectly with roast beef and probably goose and duck too. Vegetarians could drink it alongside roast aubergines or mushrooms.

This wine has plenty of fresh acidity balancing the ripe exotic fruit and a subtle toasty note. Try it with turkey, chicken, prawns or roast salmon.

Medium- to full-bodied with ripe plums and loganberries, a touch of vanilla and some drying tannins on the finish. This would go very nicely with roast or grilled red meats and roast red peppers too.
