A little more than a month ago, Dr Awais Tayyab Khalily, originally from Pakistan but living in Ireland with his family for the past decade, opened Wexford town’s first walk-in medical clinic.

The demand for such a service has never been more evident. In September, The Wexford People reported the experience of Ferdia O’Brien, who returned to his hometown with his wife Mary Jo two years ago. Since then, the couple have been unable to secure a local GP and have been forced to make a 300km round trip to Dublin when medical issues arise.
