Daniel O’Donnell has signed off on his last ever issue of his fan club magazine as the singer closes his fan club booklet.
Daniel announced he is closing his fan club after 40 years, citing technology and social media as his reasoning.
He told fans of his sadness at the decision about shutting the club which has been in operation since 1985.
Daniel noted that because ‘everything is so instantaneously available’, any news reaches fans before the fan club can break it.
He said “There’s a sadness as I finish off writing this letter, as it is the last I will write for the fan club bulletin.
“The fan club would be nothing if it wasn’t for you, “the fans.” I will be forever grateful for the wonderful support you have given my career.
‘I suppose it’s a sad realisation of how things have progressed in this world of technology that has brought us to the point of deciding to end the fan club.
“Everything is so instantaneously available now on social media, and it reaches people so rapidly that you all have the news before the fan club is able to share it with you.”
The Kincasslagh man urged his fans to be cautious of fraudsters impersonating him online, as he warned that he would never contact anyone on social media.
It comes not long after the 63-year-old star recently revealed he will be taking a long sabbatical following ongoing minor health issues.
‘After more than 40 years as a touring singer I’ve finally taken a sabbatical,’ he said, adding that aside from a local church performance before Christmas, ‘I’m now officially on a break for most of the next two years.’
