HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — If you are walking through Haywood Community College, you may notice a long steel sculpture with a message that reads, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.”

The pole is one of six pieces included in the college’s new art walk.

HAYWOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE CELEBRATES 60 YEARS, UNVEILING NEW CAMPUS ART TRAIL

It was designed by employee, Brek Lanning, as a dedication to the college’s 60th anniversary and the Waynesville Rotary Club’s centennial.

The pole is meant to inspire unity among people from all walks of life. Its message is meant to be an affirmation of peace.

The sculpture is internally lit every day from dusk until dawn, its message shining even in the dark.
