Your report “Green Energy Push in Europe Backfires” (Page One, Dec. 3) underscores how Europe’s aggressive effort to decarbonize undercut its economic growth and industrial competitiveness. China is outcompeting Europe in heavy industry even as the Continent builds an intermittent power system beholden to China’s control.
Chinese manufacturing dominance is a significant security concern, but the ultimate power is the ability to control another nation’s power. Czech researcher Erika Langerova warns that “China holds a kill switch to European power grids.” Beijing already weaponized critical rare-earth magnet supply chains. Europe shouldn’t empower it to turn out the lights.
