Australia made history when it introduced the world’s first social media ban last week. Teenagers were kicked off sites last Wednesday as it became accounts for under-16s were outlawed.
The apps include TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, Reddit, Twitch, Kick and Threads. While children and parents will not be prosecuted for breaches of the rules, social media firms could face fines of up to Aus$49.5m (€28m).
