You might associate the term ‘lock-in’ with being locked in a bar after closing time, but the ‘Great Lock-in 2025’, has nothing to do with a full-on session in any pub. The phase has taken on a whole new – and some would say more wholesome – meaning in the run up to New Year’s Eve 2025.
The ‘Great Lock-in 2025’ is a viral TikTok trend that encourages participants to set goals they want to achieve by the end of this year, and ‘lock them in’, which is Gen Z slang for committing. It involves setting a goal, committing to new habits, and, crucially, charting your progress in areas like fitness, health, career, finances, and general well-being, online.
