Irish households are being urged to check their extension leads immediately as a major nationwide safety alert has been issued.
Extension leads are a staple in many Irish homes, particularly at this time of the year when they keep Christmas decorations powered.
But this everyday household essential could now pose a serious fire risk.
Corry’s has issued an urgent recall of its Rugged Trailing Electrical Sockets, which were sold in at least 184 stores across Ireland.
The business has confirmed that a manufacturing fault may cause the lead to overheat, and in a small number of cases, the cable has melted, creating a fire risk.
The recall affects products purchased between September 1 and November 28, 2025 with the following specific part numbers: 272119, 272121, 272122, 272123, 272124, 272125, 272126, 272127, 272128, 272130.
It’s believed affected cables were sold to around 1,850 customers across Ireland, through at least 184 shops. A full list of affected stores can be found below.
Customers who purchased these leads are urged to stop using them immediately and unplug them safely from the mains. Customers can return them to their point of purchase for a refund or replacement. Proof of purchase is not required.

In a safety alert issued on Thursday, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: “Corry’s Ironmongery Limited t/a Corry’s is carrying out a recall of Rugged Trailing Electrical Sockets. The product presents a risk of fire and burns. A manufacturing fault may cause the product to overheat during use. In a small number of cases, the cable may melt under load, creating a risk of fire and burns.
“The brand is Rugged. The affected products have a moulded plug top and are those purchased between 01 September 2025 and 28 November 2025. If you purchased a trailing socket before 01 September 2025, or after 28 November 2025, it is not affected by this recall.
“If you purchased one of these products, please stop use immediately and unplug the trailing socket safely. If you purchased one of these products, please return it to your point of purchase for a refund or replacement, no proof of purchase is required.
“For further information or if you have any questions or queries on this recall, you can contact Corry’s by phone on 01-4404860 or by email sales@corrys.ie.”
In a statement, Corry’s said: “Our supplier is recalling a specific batch of pre-packaged trailing sockets due to a potential safety defect. A manufacturing defect in the crimping process in a recent shipment may cause the product to overheat during use. In a small number of cases, the cable has melted under load, creating a risk of fire.
“We are working with our retailers to remove all affected stock from sale and are providing refunds or replacements (where possible) to all customers. Safety is our top priority and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. If you require further information please contact 01 4404 860 or sales@corrys.ie.”
