Samsung phones have high-resolution cameras and lots of camera features. But there is one feature missing from Galaxy phones, and it is the ability to capture 24MP images using the stock camera app. This resolution setting is only available in the Expert RAW app. Soon, it could also come to the stock Camera app on Galaxy phones.

Recently, Samsung released a major update to the Camera Assistant app, bringing several new features. Evidence found in the code of the Camera Assistant app by Android Authority suggests that Samsung is working on bringing the 24MP resolution option for still images in the stock Camera app. Once enabled, the 24MP resolution setting will be available in the stock Camera app’s Photo and Portrait modes.

The stock Camera app on Galaxy phones currently offer three still image resolution options: 12MP, 50MP and 200MP (available only on phones with 200MP camera sensors). 12MP images have excellent colors, a wide dynamic range, and low noise but offer slightly less detail than 50MP and 200MP shots. Conversely, 50MP and 200MP images provide more detail but have a narrower dynamic range and larger file sizes compared to 12MP images.

A 24MP option strikes a great balance between colour, detail, dynamic range and file size. This option will likely debut with the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra early next year. However, Samsung might also introduce it to older high-end phones like the Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
