The weekend before Christmas, gardaí arrested six drivers across Co Wexford on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Despite all of the campaigns, it seems that for some people the message is just not getting through.
It was for this reason that Wexford Gardaí shared a message from a member of the public who is living with the consequences of a drunk driver every day of her life.
Noting Wexford Gardaí’s recent clampdown on drink/drug driving, the woman said:
“I would like to commend each member of an Garda Siochána for your diligence in dealing with unlawful driving and drunk/ drug driving, in addition to uninsured drivers, defective tyres etc.”
“My life changed in a split second, over 4 years ago and l am now wheelchair bound, because of a careless driver. I was walking on a path at the time. I will NEVER get my life back, or walk again unaided, through no fault of my own.
“So if you can save only one person from the pain I endure daily, you are doing an amazing service. Mhaith thú go léir.”
Once again, Wexford Gardaí are urging people to plan nights out in advance and never, ever take a chance and drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In addition, people are urged to watch their speed while travelling this Christmas and to ensure that they give the road their full attention and arrive alive.
