Many shops won’t open at all today

After Christmas Day, plenty of households across the country will be in need of some kitchen essentials. Whether you’ve run out of bread and milk, need to pick up batteries for toys, or fancy some veg for round two of roast dinner, many people will need to pop to the shops today.

But some supermarkets have different hours for St Stephen’s Day, and many shops won’t open at all. Shoppers are being reminded to make sure to check adjusted opening times for the festive period. Here’s the info you need to know if you’re planning on a grocery shop today:

Are supermarkets open on St Stephen’s Day in Ireland?

Some supermarkets will be open today, including many large Tesco stores. However, many other shops will remain shut and reopen as normal again on December 26th.

Can I buy alcohol?

Yes. Pubs and shops can sell alcohol on St. Stephen’s Day in Ireland, though some off-licences and supermarkets may have different selling hours – usually after 12pm until 10pm tonight.

Dunnes Stores

Dunnes Stores is a favourite for festive food shopping extended opening hours at many locations during Christmas week, with some stores opening as late as 2 am in the run up to the 25th. However, Stephen’s Day is different. All branches are CLOSED on December 26th and will open again as normal tomorrow. See details for local opening times in advance here.

Tesco

Some Tesco stores will remain shut on St Stephen’s Day, while others will reopen on December 26 from 10 am to 8 pm. Shops, including the Tesco at Paul Street Shopping Centre, will stay closed, while other Tesco Extras like Mahon, Douglas, Ballincollig, Midleton and Mallow are open. Aldi

Aldi stores nationwide are closed St Stephen’s Day and open as normal at 8 am on December 27th. A small number of stores may have different hours, so customers should check their local branch here.

Lidl

All Lidl stores are closed St Stephen’s Day and will open as normal on Saturday.

SuperValu

SuperValu stores are independently operated, meaning their opening hours may vary by location during the festive period. Many SuperValu locations will reopen on St Stephen’s Day from 10 am, and then close early at 6 pm. However, you can check your local shop here.

M&S

M&S stores are CLOSED for Stephen’s Day, and will reopen tomorrow. Find your local shop here.
