A 48-year-old man has died after a house fire in Co Antrim.

The fire broke out at a home in the Waring Street area of Ballymena on Friday morning.

Two crews from Ballymena fire station attended the incident after the blaze was reported at 9.30am. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers attached to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said his death is not being treated as suspicious and inquiries into the circumstances of the fire are ongoing.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police can confirm that a man, aged in his 40s, has died following a fire at a house in the Waring Street area of Ballymena, on Friday 26th December.

“Police received a report of the fire shortly before 9.45am on Friday morning, and attended alongside colleagues from other emergency services but, sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing, however, at this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious.”
