For many, the start of a new year brings the push to get in shape, signing up for gym memberships, buying new workout gear, and scrolling through diet plans online. But for Houston-based fitness coach Brian Presley, it wasn’t about following the latest trends or hopping on the next big diet.

He had spent years working out, but around 2019–2020, he hit a frustrating plateau. No matter how hard he trained, he said he couldn’t seem to move past a certain point, and his progress slowed to a crawl.

“I started using the Simple app probably around roughly 2019-2020, that’s when I had really started to hit a plateau, and I needed to actually get past that plateau,” Presley explains. “I needed something to help me. Then I actually saw an ad on Instagram for the app, and after I did that, I took off,” he added.

Before discovering Simple, Brian often lost a little weight only to get stuck. Hiring a personal trainer wasn’t an option, so he had to find another way.

He combined intermittent fasting with healthier meals, cutting out fried foods and other choices that didn’t suit his body. “I decided to not only fast for my journey, but also implement the right kind of healthy foods so that I wasn’t struggling after a fast,” he says.

This approach, paired with consistent workouts, helped Brian shed over 100 pounds and improve his muscle tone. He says the combination of fasting, meal control, and exercise has “done wonders”, and he was “able to lose over 100 pounds, get back into better shape, feel better (and) have more confidence.”

The Simple app became an important part of Brian’s routine. He used it to track fasting windows, log meals, and access personalised workouts. He also enjoyed interactive features like Blinky, the app’s accountability mascot, and Avo, an AI wellness coach providing guidance and tips.

“I roughly use it two or three times a week, just to keep my value straight. It is good for tracking, and it helps keep things tangible. If I can see it, then I know I can actually get the results and follow what the app is telling me to do,” Brian explains.

He added: “When I was heavier and had more weight on me, it was harder to be more energized. I was tired, I was sluggish. I wasn’t very attuned to how my energy flowed through my body. So now that I’ve lost fat, I’m in better shape, and I am healthier. I’m actually able to feel better, look better, I’m more energized. I can get up earlier, I don’t feel as tired as like midday or throughout the day. Coupled with the fasting, my energy levels are through the roof, through the roof. So I have no complaints.”

For those curious, the Simple app provides personalised plans for fasting, workouts, and nutrition. UK users can save 60% with the code REACH60, and buyers can even share their Simple Premium subscription with someone for free.

The Simple app helps people track their food, exercise, and overall wellness in one place. They can log meals by typing, speaking, or taking a photo, and use the NutriScanner to see the nutrition in their food.

It also has an intermittent fasting tracker that focuses on safe, healthy habits instead of strict calorie counting. The app creates personalised workout plans, including Yoga, Pilates, HIIT, walking, and Tai Chi.

Consistency was key for Presley and he says that with the app’s support, he stayed on track with fasting, workouts, and nutrition, which helped him maintain energy levels and feel healthier overall. “It’s been an awesome journey with the app. It’s actually taken me from here to here. I recommend anybody on a weight loss journey, if you can’t hire a personal coach or go to the gym, you can use this app. It will actually get you from point A to point B.”

If this isn’t the app for everyone, there are other alternatives buyers can choose from. For example, MyFitnessPal is a calorie tracker and BMR calculator. The app has both free options or a premium paid option for £19.99 a month that includes a custom meal planner, over 1,500 recipes and automated grocery lists.

There is also Noom, which is a weight loss app that combines nutrition tracking, coaching support and recipes. This offers a calorie calculator, macros calculator and helps people understand their eating habits better.

The Simple app has been rated a high 4.3 out of 5 stars from over 34,000 reviews on Trustpilot, however. One person said: “I love this approach. Always you are active and focused on healthy meals. I feel energized and motivated. Thank you.”

A second commented: “Helps me keep track of everything and keeps me motivated.” Not every app will be suited to everyone of course, and a handful of others disagreed slightly as one person said: “The app is fairly intuitive, and it is nice to be able to ask the AI assistant when I have questions about really anything at all. The only drawbacks I’ve seen are that it was really hard for me to figure out how to edit something I had logged, as well as the Avo assistant sometimes loses track of our conversation and diverts from the mission midstream.”

Overall, most people were pleased though, as another said: “Great app. Really keeps me on track.”

Another said: “Simple is far and away the best program I have found for weight loss and monitoring your activities and exercises. The AI coach is amazing and very encouraging. I’ve been on for almost 2 weeks and am already down almost 12 pounds. At 71, I appreciate the positive reinforcement and suggestions. Give it a try.”
