In Bristol, the city’s waste company has said trees must be no taller than 2m if they are to be collected and all decorations must be removed.

People are asked to check their waste collection calendar for the tree symbol to discover when their collection will take place.

In Gloucestershire, those who subscribe to the garden waste service can cut up their real Christmas tree and put it in their green garden waste bin – with decorations removed and the bin lid closed.

In Somerset and Wiltshire, garden waste subscribers can leave trees, under 2m in length, next to their garden waste recycling bin on the first collection date in January.
