TG4 will commission new creative content as part of its commitment to championing original Irish language programming

TG4 has announced a €10 million funding package to commission new creative programming and strengthen its commitment to original Irish language content in 2026.

The funding will be available for the development and production of new projects, across a range of genres, including entertainment, arts, current affairs and young people drama, with a strong focus on supporting new production companies.

TG4 director general Deirdre Ní Choistín announced the funding saying: “This €10 million investment underlines our ambition as a Publisher Broadcaster for TG4’s content slate and our confidence in new creative talent across the production sector.

“By supporting new ideas and new producers, while continuing our existing funding commitments, we are investing in the future of great storytelling and in the next generation of Irish language creative voices.”

The funding will be rolled out through open commissioning rounds including an open commissioning round which closed before Christmas.

TG4 is hoping to engage with both new and existing production companies, and will offer clear pathways for new producers to engage with TG4’s content team, in an effort “to champion innovation, plurality and originality in content creation”.

In relation to the funding, there will be a focus on on developing the production sector in the Gaeltacht to allow for better distribution of funds across all Gaeltacht regions.

In 2026, TG4 will also commence a new multiplatform digital news service.
